RSCDS Brighton Branch

Pat Harvey Memorial Scholarship

RSCDS Brighton Branch raises funds at its dance in February for The Pat Harvey Memorial Scholarship was set up to sponsor young, new Scottish dancers from Sussex to attend an RSCDS HQ training event such as their Winter School, Spring Fling and Summer School.

Branch members were invited to let us know of any young, new dancer who would like to apply for such support.

The Summer School runs from mid-July to mid-August, for dancers and musicians. You can register for one or more weeks. There is a Family week with childcare available and a Musicans course week(s). This is a great opportunity to mix with other dancers from around world. There is live music played for all classes and dances. Dance classes in morning, optional walk-throughs in afternoon, evening dances and ceilidh. Checkout the bouncy Younger Hall floor and paddle in the sea.

You can read reports from the people we sponsored: Jennie in 2003 and Katy in 2007.

The Spring Fling

Brighton Branch also sponsored people to attend Spring Fling. This is a great opportunity for young dancers between 16 and 35 to mix with other young dancers of all abilities. Starting with a ceilidh on Friday evening, there are country dance classes on Saturday and Sunday morning, optional Highland classes and a dance on Saturday evening.

In 2004, we sponsored Mahalia Brozda to attend RSCDS Spring Fling at Cambridge - see Mahalia's report and photos.

Finding no young people to sponsor after 2007, it was agreed by the branch at its AGM in 2016 to close the Pat Harvey Scholarship Fund, and the balance was used to sponsor a class for teachers in November 2016.
