RSCDS Brighton BranchPat Harvey Memorial FundThe RSCDS Brighton Branch Pat Harvey Memorial Fund was set up to provide scholarships for young or new Scottish dancers from Sussex to attend an RSCDS Flagship event or school, such as a Winter School, a Spring Fling or a Summer School. If you know a young or new dancer (yourself perhaps?) who would like to apply for a scholarship, please get in touch. We also use the Fund to sponsor local weekend day and afternoon classes for dancers of all abilites, organised by Fran and taught by Mervyn Short; for example this beginners' class, this afternoon of challenging dances and this weekend teachers' skills course. There was also an introduction to RSCDS Book 52. Find out what is coming up soon on our Events page. The international Spring Fling is a joyous Scottish dance weekend for dancers aged 16 to 35, starting with a fun ceilidh. Choose from a range of daytime Scottish country dance and Highland classes and enjoy a splendid Scottish ball Saturday evening. The Spring Fling came to Brighton in 2025 and we supported the main events (bodily and financially) and ran a "fringe" workshop for parents and older dancers. At the time of writing, HQ has published photos of Brighton Spring Fling 2025. See also Mahalia's report and photos about her experience of the 2004 Spring Fling at Cambridge. The RSCDS Summer Schools at St Andrews is for Scottish dancers and musicians; there are optional daytime classes with walk-throughs and Scottish dances and ceilidhs in the evenings. Read how it was for Jennie in 2003 and Katy in 2007. |
